Screen time limits for kids

A school day has rules: lessons first, an hour for games, phones sleep at night. Hoglt turns them into screen time limits that switch on by themselves.

How does school time work?

Weekdays, 08:00–14:00: the apps a parent picks stay closed during lessons. Calls always work. With PLUS, a school zone can lock them only inside the school area.

How does a daily limit work?

One hour means one hour. When an app's time for the day is used up, it stays closed until tomorrow. A child can ask a parent, and the parent's PIN unlocks it for 15–60 minutes.

When does bedtime start?

Every day, 22:00–07:00 by default, the phone goes to sleep too.

How do you make a rule?

In the parent app a rule reads like a sentence: close games on weekdays, 08:00–14:00. Hours, a daily limit, a place and (on Android) Wi-Fi can be combined. When rules overlap, the strictest one wins.

Works on iPhone and Android. Unlimited custom schedules come with Hoglt PLUS.

Which templates are ready to use?

Start from the School time, Bedtime and daily-limit templates and change the hours in a tap. With PLUS you can add as many custom schedules as you need.

How much screen time is right?

Pediatricians don't give one number for school-age children: the American Academy of Pediatrics asks families to set consistent limits that leave room for sleep, activity, school, meals and friends, and to switch screens off at least an hour before bed. Read how much screen time is right for school kids.

What do real rules look like?

Each one is a single sentence in the parent app; when two overlap, the stricter one applies.

How do iPhone and Android differ?

On iPhone, Instagram and YouTube can keep chats and long videos while Reels and Shorts go, each with a short daily time budget. On Android, rules can also follow the Wi-Fi network the phone is on. Compare iPhone parental controls and Android parental controls.
